Privacy Policy

How Mercy Maple Relief collects, uses, and protects your personal information.

Last updated: May 16, 2026

1. Our commitment

Mercy Maple Relief is a registered Canadian charity committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what personal information we collect, why we collect it, and how we handle it, in alignment with Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA).

2. Information we collect

We collect personal information that you provide directly to us, including when you make a donation or contact us:

  • Identity and contact details: full name, email address, phone number, and mailing address.
  • Donation details: amount, donation type (one-time or monthly), the program you choose, and your consent and acknowledgment preferences.
  • Technical data: basic information such as your browser type and pages visited, collected to keep the Site secure and functioning.

Payment card information is collected and processed directly by our third-party payment provider. We do not store full card numbers on our servers.

3. How we use your information

  • To process your donation and issue an official tax receipt as required by the Canada Revenue Agency.
  • To send a donation acknowledgment and, where you have consented, updates about the impact of your gift.
  • To respond to your inquiries and provide donor support.
  • To meet legal, accounting, and regulatory obligations, including charity reporting requirements.
  • To protect the Site against fraud and abuse.

4. Consent

By submitting a donation you consent to us using your information for the purposes above, including emailing your donation acknowledgment and receipt. You may withdraw consent for non-essential communications at any time by using the unsubscribe link in our emails or by contacting us. Note that we must retain certain records to comply with charity and tax law even after you withdraw consent.

5. Sharing of information

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. We share it only with:

  • Service providers who act on our behalf, such as our payment processor and email provider, under confidentiality obligations and only as needed to deliver the service.
  • Authorities or regulators where required by law, such as the Canada Revenue Agency.

6. Data retention and security

We retain donation and receipting records for the period required by Canadian charity and tax law, and other personal information only as long as necessary for the purposes described here. We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to protect your information against loss, unauthorized access, or disclosure.

7. Your rights

Subject to legal limits, you have the right to access the personal information we hold about you, request corrections, and request deletion of information we are not required to keep. Contact us to exercise these rights; we may ask you to verify your identity before responding.

8. Anonymous donations

If you choose to make your donation anonymous, your name will not be displayed publicly. We still collect your contact details internally so we can issue a valid tax receipt and meet regulatory requirements.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date above reflects the most recent revision. Material changes will be posted on this page.

To access, correct, or delete your personal information, or to ask a privacy question, reach our privacy contact via the contact page. See also our Terms of Use.
